Following the education philosophy of “cultivating high-quality and international applied talents,” the Department of English optimizes the curriculum system and constantly improves the quality of foreign language teaching. In recent years, the English major has been among the best in the digital evaluation of ZUST undergraduate majors. About 95% of our students pass TEM 4 on average; up to 92% pass TEM 8; the excellent race is increasing yearly. Courses of Translation Theory and Practice, Advanced English, English Interpretation, and English Reading are the first-class undergraduate courses in Zhejiang Province. Moreover, the Department of English has won the second prize of the ZUST Teaching Achievement award.
In the past five years, the teachers in the department presided over 11 provincial projects, including two from the Ministry of Education; more than 40 papers were published in journals, seven in core journals, and four monographs were published. One second prize was won in the provincial teaching competition, and one first prize and 2second prizes were won in the Innovative Teaching Competition of ZUST; there were also two papers winning the second and third prizes of excellent theses of Hangzhou Association of Foreign Languages and Literature respectively; 1 teacher was selected for the Excellent Young Teacher Funding Scheme of ZUST.
English majors have won 13 National College Students’ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Programs and 4 Provincial New Talents Programs. The employment rate of English major students remains above 95%. It ranks first consecutively in the entire university in 2022 and 2023. The rate of participation in postgraduate entrance examinations and the rate of enrollment has steadily increased. In 2019, 2020 and 2022, and the Department of English has been rated as an excellent basic teaching organization in ZUST.
