The Romania (Black Sea Rim Countries) Research Center (RRC) of Zhejiang University of Science and Technology was established in October 2021. The center focuses on conducting country-specific and regional research on the Black Sea littoral countries, which include Ukraine, Russia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, and Turkey. It aims to promote research on the Black Sea Rim countries, especially Romania, from a high starting point and with an international perspective. The goal is to enhance exchanges and cooperation between China and the Black Sea Rim countries, deepen connectivity, and build an important base for China's cooperation and exchange with these countries.
The guiding principle of the center is to serve the needs of the "Belt and Road" initiative and the economic and trade cooperation between Zhejiang Province of China and Central and Eastern Europe. It is combined with the China & Central and Eastern European Countries Expo and International Consumer Goods Expo, with Romania as the research target, to focus on the study of the economies, politics, languages, cultures, education, arts, society, and comprehensive theories of the Black Sea Rim countries, which, hopefully, will enhance the international competitiveness of Zhejiang and China in the Black Sea Rim countries.
In the future, the center will focus on strengthening the construction of country-specific and regional research disciplines, cultivating interdisciplinary subjects, and training international talents who meet the needs of China and Central-Eastern Europe. It aims to establish a research team with professional advantages and significant influence. The center will serve as a platform for cultural exchange and strive to become a comprehensive research center integrating academic research, talent cultivation, high-end think tanks, and international exchanges.
